The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has an upcoming announcement in March around digital rights management (DRM). The W3C, led by Tim Berners-Lee, looks set to standardise DRM-enabling Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) in browsers. This all sounds a bit jargony and esoteric, but some are saying this threatens the fundamental free and open principles of the web, and opens users up to security threats.
