New figures released by the AA show that drug-impaired drivers are the cause of more fatal accidents on our roads than drink drivers.

It is understood to be the first time in recorded history that the stats have gone this way.

And, while cannabis is highly reflected in the research, meth and even prescription drugs are also to blame for some of New Zealand’s high road toll.

Stewart had a chat with AA spokesperson Dylan Thomsen about the news, asking him what the figures show us and whether it's surprising.
